Alice Edna Louise Stempges was born on August 21,1909 to Fred and Amelia (Miller) Everett in Jasper, Minnesota. She was baptized on August 26, 1909, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on June 8, 1924. She was raised and attended school in Jasper where she graduated from Jasper High School in 1930. Upon completion of her education, she babysat for area families. On May 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Elmer Stempges at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jasper. Following their marriage, they resided in Pipestone, Minnesota, and Alice continued to babysit for various families. Elmer preceded her in death on October 10, 1988. After his death, Alice lived in Pipestone until August, 2000, when she became a resident of the Sunrise Village in Jasper. On December 6, 2003, she moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and became a resident of Covington Heights Golden Living Center. She died there on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the age of 98 years, five months and 22 days.
Alice was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she was active in the Women's General Assembly. She enjoyed playing cards, she liked to do fancy work, and she loved to go fishing.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Richard and his wife Alvira Stempges of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; one granddaughter, Lisa and her husband Dan Wiese of Luverne, Minnesota; and two great grandsons, Alexander and Tanner Wiese. She was preceded in death by her husband; one great-grandson, Scott; her parents; three brothers, Ole, Frank, and Bob; and six sisters, infant Laura, Cecilia Wehrman, Lucy Rosin, Esther Anderson, infant Leona, and Helen Letson.
